Every day of your life is a product of the choices you have made. God has given every human being the gift of free will—the ability to choose between life and death, blessing and cursing. While God desires for you to choose life, He will not force you to do so. The power of choice is a great responsibility.
In today's reading, Joshua challenged the Israelites to choose whom they would serve. He made his own choice clear: "as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." Your choices today will determine your experiences tomorrow. If you choose to walk in obedience, you are choosing a path of blessing. If you choose to follow your own path, you are choosing a path of sorrow.
Many people blame God or the devil for their problems, but often it is their own choices that have led them into trouble. Choosing to associate with ungodly people, choosing to neglect your prayer life, or choosing to be dishonest in business—all these choices have consequences. You are free to choose, but you are not free to choose the consequences of your choice.
To make the right choices, you need the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Before you make any major decision, seek the mind of God. Ask yourself if your choice will bring glory to God and if it aligns with His Word. When you choose God's way, you are choosing a future that is bright and secure.
