The Christian life is a spiritual journey that cannot be lived by carnal means. To succeed as a believer, you must learn to walk in the Spirit. Walking in the Spirit means being sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and allowing Him to control your thoughts, words, and actions. It is a state of constant fellowship with God.
When you walk in the Spirit, you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. The flesh always wants things that are contrary to God's will—pride, lust, anger, and selfishness. But the Spirit leads you toward righteousness, peace, and love. There is a constant battle between the flesh and the Spirit, and the one you feed the most is the one that will win.
To walk in the Spirit, you must be filled with the Holy Spirit. This is not a one-time event but a daily requirement. You must ask the Holy Spirit to take charge of your life every morning. You must also spend time in the Word and in prayer, as these are the tools the Spirit uses to guide and strengthen you. As you yield to Him, He will give you the power to overcome temptation and to live a life that glorifies God.
Walking in the Spirit also gives you spiritual discernment. You will be able to sense danger before it comes and recognize opportunities that others miss. You will have the mind of Christ and see things from God's perspective. It is the secret to living a supernatural life in a natural world.
